Confidence boost for Delphi backed Barrett

Despite a non-finish on the recent SEAT Jim Clark Memorial Rally, Delphi backed Ian Barrett (Clayton West, Huddersfield) and Simon Ashton (Sheffield) are looking forward to next weekends 15th July) MSA Rally, the penultimate round of the Mobil 1 British Rally Championship.

Setting a string of competitive times during the Jim Clark, including his first fastest class time of the season encouraged the nineteen-year-old Roger Clark Award contender. "We didn't expect the car to be as competitive on tarmac so we were pleasantly surprised" commented Ian. "I'm really looking forward to the MSA Rally now, I think we stand a real good chance on the short twisty stages in Lincolnshire and of course I won the Northern Stage Championship last year on similar venues. The Corsa's engine has been professionally rebuilt, my Dad hails from Grantham and our luck has to change sometime…, I feel pretty confident!"

The MSA Rally is a brand new event this year based in Grantham and aimed at bringing rallying to the people. A European format is being tested where crews attempt the same group of stages three times separated by central service in Grantham. The splendid grounds of Belvoir Castle act as the setting for the feature spectator stage.
