Barrett claims the win!
Delphi backed Ian Barrett (Clayton West, Huddersfield) and co-driver Simon Ashton (Sheffield) continued Proton's domination of the 1600cc standard car class with victory on the final round of the Mobil 1 British Rally Championship - the Manx International Rally.
The Proton Satria SRi has been the class of the field in 2000 and Barrett's debut in the car saw the youngster notch up his first ever International Class victory on the most arduous round of the series.
The Isle of Man event is the longest of the season with over 200 stage miles packed into a three-day schedule. The only concern for the 20 year old Roger Clark Award contender was a precautionary change of brake discs half way through the event. "It makes a change having such a reliable car. The tortuous roads demand all your concentration on the Manx so I was glad not to have concerns as to whether the car would hold out" commented Ian who brought the car home in 21st place overall. "Our Championship season was finished before we came to the Island, so we were here for experience for next year and you always aim to win so we achieved all our objectives!"
Ian now plans a break from competition whilst building a new car in readiness for next season when he hopes to put this seasons experience to full use.
