Heart stopping moment for Ian Barrett Rallying

Reigning Northern Stage Rally Champion Ian Barrett (Clayton West) partnered by Simon Ashton (Sheffield) endured a second stage heart stopping moment on Sunday's Riponian Stages Rally.

The Vauxhall Corsa pairing were using the event for testing prior to an assault on the Mobil 1 British Rally Championship. Brake failure on just the second stage nearly put paid to the season, but a lot of luck and Ian's fine car control saved the day as he spun the car to a standstill. The damaged brake line was eventually repaired two stages later but only following a time loss of three minutes, and with it any hope of a good result.

The extremely slippery and tricky conditions tested the team to the full, but the Group 'N' (standard car class) Corsa crew battled on to claim thirtieth overall and forth in class despite the more competitive machinery pitched against them.

New suspension will be fitted to the Darton Van Hire/Hillam Tyres machine before the first Championship round, the Vauxhall Rally of Wales, where the nineteen year old youngster will do battle with the cream of British Rallying.
