Team Taylor's character building drive!

Team Taylor's David Pattrick (Sleaford) and Simon Ashton (Sheffield) attempted the Somerset Stages Rally for the first on Saturday, and the event turned out to be of the character building nature…

An overshoot in the rain on the very first stage cost around 10-15 seconds as the crew reversed back up the escape road. The second and third stage saw no improvement - a half spin in the snow and forest tracks so rough that the car kept jumping out of gear ensured time was lost and not gained. Fortunately a treacherously slippery forth stage. A repeat of the first loop followed and the crew got a little further into their stride as the acclimatised to the nature of the stages. All went wrong again though on the ninth stage - the first of two runs up the Porlock Hill Toll Road, when the crew spun on a damp hairpin bend forcing the use of reverse once more. The remaining stages were reeled off without incident as the sun began to break through on the Minehead based event. The pairing eventually finished 4th in class out of 23 starters (their worst result for over a year!) and 58th overall.

Andy Burton won a hard fought battle at the front of the field in his Peugeot Cosworth hybrid.
