Giant Component Manufacturer Backs 19 Year Old

Nineteen year old, Ian Barrett (Clayton West, Huddersfield), has secured financial backing to assist his campaign of the 2000 Mobil 1 British Rally Championship.

Delphi (Aftermarket), a division of Delphi Automotive Systems - the product previously branded AC Delco, are using the opportunity to spread the Delphi brand name.

"We see this as an opportunity to promote our new name to the motor trade with a 'toe in the water' sponsorship package. We obviously see a bright future for Ian with the possibility of going further with him as his career progresses. Our recent acquisition of the AP Lockheed division to the Delphi group means motorsport is now an obvious marketing tool" a Delphi spokesman added.

Roger Clark Award contender Ian, along with co-driver Simon Ashton (Sheffield), start the season's championship trail next Saturday (18th of March) with the Wrexham based Vauxhall Rally of Wales in a Group N (showroom car class) Vauxhall Corsa. The two day event will see the Team in action on some classic forest stages in Mid-Wales following in the tyre tracks of the factory teams.

"Following my victory in the Northern Stage Rally Championship last year, the British Rally Championship will be a huge step up but I'm really looking forward to it," stated Ian "rounding off the year with the Network Q Rally Great Britain will be a dream come true!"
