Team Taylor score on the Plains
Team Taylor's David Pattrick (Sleaford) and Simon Ashton (Sheffield) hauled in another net full of points on Saturday's Plains Rally with a fine third in class.
The Newtown based event contained just four stages in classic Mid-Wales Forests where the fast dry stages took it's toll on the on the 138 starters, leaving 97 finishers after 45 stage miles. Mark Perrott clinching a hard fought victory in his Mitsubishi Lancer.
In the small capacity standard car class, the times were close going into the halfway halt in Machynlleth with three Peugeot 106's dominating the class. Pattrick and Ashton were hot on the heals in third place despite a huge moment on the Pantperthog stage. "We hit a bump in a dip on a flat out section and the car was launched skywards towards a banking. After about 200 yards of skipping around it finally came back onto the track, but our hearts were in our mouths…". Three top crews crashed out there including the leader of the event!
On the following fifteen-mile stage in Dovey, Team Taylor's challenge for the class faltered when they got into the dust of an ailing car for the final five miles and lost over a minute. With a large margin to the following crew, the final stage was reeled off safely leaving David and Simon to take 71st overall at the finish.
The result consolidates the pairings second in class in the Peugeot Sport BTRDA Gold Star Championship at the halfway stage.
