SECRETARYS JOTTINGS. (Dec 05)
Membership Fee’s.
Once again folks it’s that time of year when membership fee’s are due, the fee for 2006 remains at £10-00, please complete the enclosed form and return to Simon Law as soon as possible.
Membership Incentive.
The idea behind this incentive is to get more people to become members of the club, the mechanics of it are, for current members to introduce three new members in 2006 who pay the membership fee and the member introducing would get free membership in 2007.
AGM and Awards Presentation.
As you will see from the enclosed form the AGM and Awards Presentation will take place on Wednesday 22nd February 2006 at Club HQ starting at 8-30pm, please try your best to be there.
Whilst on about the AGM if you are interested in being elected on to the Committee, or in fact coming to a meeting or two to see what happens at committee meetings please talk to any current Committee Members about this.
Trophies.
If you are in possession of one or in fact several of the club trophies now is the time to take them off the shelf or take them out of the cupboard and clean them up, so that you can return them to Simon Law to be presented at the awards evening.
The Philip Brooke Memorial Shield.
Nominations are invited for the above award, The award is presented annually to a member of the club who, in the opinion of the club officials has contributed most to further the goodwill and fellowship within the club.
Nominations must be in writing and signed by two club members giving reasons for the nominations, and send to the Club Secretary Derek Slater, 85 Howard Crescent, Durkar, Wakefield. WF4 3AN. by the 3rd January 2006.
Denis Parkinson Memorial Trophy.
You may wonder why this has not been brought up before, it has been discussed in committee, but we wanted to leave time for Denis’s family to suggest something, but it would seem that nothing is forthcoming, so we as a club must do something so that Denis Parkinson’s name is not forgotten within Wakefield and District Motor Sports Club.
It was felt in committee that all club members should if they wanted, have input to suggest what form the Trophy should take and what the Trophy should be presented for, once the input had been collated it would then be up to the committee to decide on what the final outcome would be.
If you have any thoughts or suggestions please talk to any current committee member about it so that it can be discussed in committee.
MSA Seminars.
In this area the seminar will be held in the Brighouse area on Saturday 25th February 2006, if any one from the club wants to go and see what they are all about or requires any more information please contact Derek Slater, bearing in mind I have to send in a returns form by the 8th December 2005.
In 2006 the Officials Seminars will be reserved for unlicensed club and event officials (which typically includes event secretaries, non-licensed clerks of course, club stewards, championship co-ordinators, and other unlicensed club and event officials). The content will include an overall theme of ‘Event Planning and Organisation’.
Information.
A note for next year’s diary, the Wales Rally GB will be on the first weekend in December in 2006.

In October and November two more rounds of the championship took place a treasure hunt and a karting competition, see either later on in newsletter or in the next newsletter for reports and results.
Still to come is an Autotest organised by Trackrod MC to be held at Temple Newsum House, Leeds, on Monday 26th December 2005 (yes!! Boxing Day). For regulations contact Andrew Apperley on 01924 892311 (H) or 07836 544037 (M) or contact David Hemingway on 01302 721248 (H) or 07710 550096 (M).
By the time the next newsletter comes out we should be able to print a full list of 2006 championship dates, however there will be no club championship events before March.
ANCC.
The ANCC awards presentation evening is on Friday 3rd February 2006 at 8-00pm to be held at Whitcliffe Mount Sports Complex, Turnstead Avenue, Clekheaton, all are very welcome to attend. (No entry charge to pay).
ANCC dates list and championship details can be found on their web site at www.ancc.co.uk
Marshalling.
Marshals are required for the following events; LeJog Rally 4-12-2005, Rockingham Stage Rally-Thame Valley MC 10/11-12-2005.
ANCC./ MSA training seminars will be taking place in January / February the details are as follows,
Askham Bryan College, York. Sunday 29th January 2006, see enclosed form, which must be filled in and returned by the stated date if you intend going ( if the form is not in with this newsletter please contact either Derek Slater or Sue Rylatt and we will ensure that you get one), this one is the nearest to us, but if you can not make it on that day the two alternatives are Myerscough College, Preston on the 28th January 2006 and Northumberland College, Ponteland on the 4th February 2006.
I understand that some of the format has been changed, so that if you have been previously it will not be the same old thing, and all so that some fire training will take part.
For the Marshals amongst club members you may be interested in some information on Procedure on what to do if you are dealing with a major incident on a stage, there is also an aide-memoire of what to do in the case of a serious or fatal accident, you can pull this information off either of the two following web sites www.ancc.co.uk or www.msauk.org .
For information for marshals I print the following extract from the ANEMMC minutes, written by the ANEMMC Training Officer:
Part of my job as training officer is to keep competitors, marshals and officials informed on any changes which could affect their safety. I would like to bring to the delegates attention a change in certain rally car isolators and ask you to take this information back to your club.
Most cars that rally in this country have MSA Log Books and are built to Blue Book specifications. These have an external isolator in the form of a switch or button marked with a zig zag in a triangle and a fire suppressant system switch or button marked with a red E in a red circle.
WRC cars are built to FIA Yellow Book rules. The rule on external isolators is rather vague by allowing either one switch or two. What do I mean by this? WRC Subaru’s all appear to have a
two button system, again one for isolation and one for fire. However, in contrast most but not all Mitsubishi Evo’s have a single push button switch, WRC Ford Focus’s have a single ring pull. Both these systems kill the electrics and automatically activate the fire suppressant system. The fire system can be
de-activated from inside the car by the crew but marshals / competitors / whoever may have difficulty obtaining safe access into the car to operate this if the crew are unable to.
I do not see this as an easy or safe option so what I personally would do if I was first on scene as a marshal and I came across a car with two switches, isolate it but don’t hit the fire button / switch unless I really suspect fire, or a big risk of it.
On cars with only one switch or pull ring you have to hit / pull it, there is no other easy and safe option. I am sure if the crew are compus mentis enough they will disarm the system and save £350 minimum re-charge fee.
I write this with everyone’s best interest at heart as an interim instruction, I have informed the MSA of my findings and had a reply back from John Symes, that he was aware of this and something more official would be announced soon.
From MSA Safety Committee, it was emphasised that fire extinguishers in competing cars are not intended to extinguish fires but to delay the fire to allow the crew to escape the car.
For all matters to do with marshalling if you require more up to date information please contact the Club Chief Marshal Sue Rylatt on 01484 866023 (H) or 07779 857707 (M).
Information.
The following letter has been received from A. Duncan, Autumn Leaves, 16 Manstone Mead, Sidmouth, Devon. EX10 9RX.
I started collecting motoring literature in about 1958, and although the collection remained rather static for the last 10 to12 years, it is still a large collection and literally filled one room.
I have now retired and moved to a smaller house, so wish to sell most if not all the collection. It comprises of marque books, magazines, club magazines, brochures, calendars, photographs, company histories, books on cars, motor racing, rallying, lorries, buses, fire engines, trams, tractors, traction engines, military, motor show catalogues, ‘Autocar and Motor’ show issues, prints, postcards,, motor cycle books, handbooks, workshop manuals, even a few steering wheels and other odd bits and pieces, plus models.
I wonder if your club librarian or archivist or any of your members may be interested. Could you please make a mention in your club magazine or newsletter? The list I have compiled runs to 132 pages and costs over £12 to photocopy and post.
That’s it for this month I am fed up of typing, apart from, as this will be the last newsletter of 2005,
may we take this opportunity to wish all Members a very Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.
